SOUND KITCHEN ENTRIES

Sound Kitchen is an opportunity for sound designers and composers who work in all forms of sound and performance to publicly present or perform their work in a listening-friendly space at World Stage Design 2025 in Sharjah.

Sound Kitchen draws on and builds an inclusive international community amongst sound designers and is an opportunity for designers to learn about current trends and methods being used by other designers around the world. It is also a fun and enjoyable event for World Stage Design attendees and is an opportunity for non-sound people to learn about sound design. Sound Kitchen will sit in a wider program of sound events at World Stage Design.

Presentations may be live performances, demonstrations, or playback of previous work or work in development. While visual components are welcome, the focus should be on sound. Pieces may be compositions (or extracts from longer compositions), sound art, sounds from an installation, or sound scores from theatre or live entertainment, pieces are typically 10-20m in duration with a short opportunity to discuss the work afterwards.

The number of performances will be determined by the number of successful entries, but typically we present 4-6 performances per day for 3-4 days. There will be an opportunity to discuss your work with the listeners after the performance.

Application/Entry Instruction:

Follow these steps to submit your entry:

● Prepare a brief sample of your work and submit the link

● Prepare a short written brief to explain your work, under 200 words

● Please follow the link on the Sound Kitchen website to submit your entry.

First-round entries will need to be submitted by 7th October 2024. There will potentially be an opportunity to submit for further rounds, depending on engagement and confirmation for round one.

First call applicants will be informed of acceptance by November 7th 2024.

Assess and Minimize Ecological Footprint: Every design decision we make is grounded in assessing its environmental impact. We encourage all participants to rigorously assess the sustainability of their design choices, prioritizing materials and methods that have minimal environmental impact.

At World Stage Design 2025, we are committed to finding and utilizing eco-friendly materials, renewable energy sources, and sustainable production methods. We challenge our participants to seek out and implement alternatives that contribute to a healthier planet, pushing the boundaries of creativity without compromising environmental integrity.

Collaborate for a Sustainable Future: The future of heritage is intertwined with the health of our environment. We invite all participants to join us in this mission by adopting sustainable practices in their designs and sharing knowledge on eco-friendly solutions. Together, we can create a lasting impact, ensuring that the art we create today does not come at the expense of tomorrow’s environment.
