What I'm working on at the moment
As a Director of Theatreplan, I'm mostly working as a theatre consultant designing systems for building upgrades, redevelopments and new build venues all over the world.
These days my work is across all theatre design disciplines, along with all that is involved with running a company.
Having said that, I remain involved in live theatre industry in an ad hoc way, usually when my other experience can also be of value to a project.
Biog
Mathew graduated from Central School of Speech and Drama in 1998, having already worked at the National Theatre, London on several productions. He soon became a sound engineer at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, as well as working on a variety of theatre productions in London’s West End and on tour.

Returning to the National Theatre as a Senior Sound Technician, Mathew operated numerous productions in all of the theatres, playing a key role in many projects. He worked as a sound designer for ‘The Seafarer’ and ‘Slow Time’, associate sound designer for ‘Once in a Lifetime’, the revival of ‘His Dark Materials’ and 'Death and the King's Horseman'.

Since 2007, Mathew has been working regularly with Theatreplan (becoming a partner in 2012), specialising in sound, video and communications installations. He is responsible for designing installations for many venues, including the rebuild of the Lyric Theatre, Belfast, the refurbishment of the Crucible Theatre and Studio, Sheffield and the design of the new St. James theatre London.

Mathew continues to work as a theatre practitioner in the UK and abroad in a variety of different roles, transferring his sound design of the National Theatre’s ‘The Seafarer’ to Broadway, as associate sound designer to Paul Arditti (sound designer) with the world premiere of ‘London Road’ in the National’s Cottesloe theatre and the National’s 50th year celebration broadcast live on BBC television and to cinemas worldwide, and Paul Groothuis (sound designer) with the transfer of ‘Chariots Of Fire’ from the Hampstead Theatre to the Gielgud Theatre.
